If you have been put to sleep by watching games from 20 years ago and today’s version of world of sports, you are forgiven.

Last week we received some exciting news in NCAA Division 1 Conference realignment.

At the beginning of the month Florida A&M voted, and the Southwestern Athletic Conference voted to approve membership as a full member for the conference effective in the 2021-22 year.

A second move which was based in cutting traveling costs, Robert Morris in Pennsylvania to join the

Horizon League.  Robert Morris is in suburban Pittsburgh and fights for recognition from Pitt, Penn St., Duquesne, and West Virginia.  The football team will compete in the Big South conference.  The move will cut the average distance to opponents by 60 miles each.

In addition to Robert Morris and Florida A&M, New Jersey IT has agreed to join the America East Conference, which will be a saving on travel for New Jersey and members of the Atlantic Sun, this takes effect today June 15,2020. New Jersey IT’s move should not change plans the Atlantic Sun has with the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association for a merger and establishment of a new conference.

Stay tuned the Northeast Conference is going to look for a replacement for Robert Morris, most likely a school looking for upward movement from Division 2.  The key from this move and the New Jersey IT move is that smaller schools are trying to decrease traveling distances within the league, additionally across collegiate athletics at all level schools are cutting sports daily.
